We had the most fun 72 hours you can have in Vegas without betting or gambling a single dime! We stayed at The Luxor, a giant pyramid, housing the casino that shoots a huge laser into the air at night (natch).
A great view for home school....
After our adventure into the Nevada and Arizona desert on day 1, we spent the rest of our time soaking up the bright lights and crazy shows Vegas has to offer.
From the fountain display at The Bellagio, a Volcano erupting at The Mirage and an indoor recreation of Venice complete with gondolas on canals and St Marks Square at The Venetian, there is certainly plenty of free things to see.
Siegmund and Roy's Secret Garden at the Mirage was well worth the entrance fee as Sophia finally got to get up close and personal with dolphins. They have a rehabilitation programme there and an oh-too-cute 6 week old baby dolphin called Coco. She has now learnt she needs to do a psychology degree and animal welfare to work with them so has that to aim for!
As we walked in to see the white tiger, lions, panthers and cougars we were greeted by Seigman himself! So rock and roll.
However, the highlight for us was seeing the show Legends where my step-sister Kate was starring as Dusty Springfield. What a corker of a show! She was unbelievably good and opened the show. With a 30 year career singing in shows such as 'That'll be the day' and impersonating Cher, Tina Turner and Lady Gaga to name but a few, Kate's big break came when she won the BBC show 'The One and Only ' 9 years ago, the prize being a 3 month contract at Legends in Vegas. She hasn't looked back and now lives there full time with her family. Michael Jackson, Elvis and Marilyn Monroe were also in the show and we all loved every minute. We also got to catch up with Kate over dinner -which is the first time we'd seen each other in about 3 years!
Legends was in The Flamingo, which has a courtyard you can walk through full of real-life flamingos and Sophia did a great impression of one with her pink dress and skinny legs!
So we leave Vegas after an unforgettable couple of days, all happy to leave The Strip behind us (people can still smoke inside the buildings 😱) as we head to the tropical island Hawaii.
