Sharks, dolphins and home school in Malibu

August 29, 2017

As August draws to a close we have enjoyed the beautiful Californian coast on our journey South. On Friday we arrived in Santa Barbara where we could have quite easily stayed. At Stearns Pier we saw tiger sharks basking and we had dinner in State Street where Dave reminisced about staying with a friend studying at UCLA.  How did he ever get any work done in a college campus in Santa Barbara that had a pool and a bar in the courtyard??

Over breakfast on Saturday at Hendrys beach (huge for dog walkers) we were so elated to see a pod of dolphins swim past before a walk along the rugged coastline. Seeing them was high on Sophia's wish list for this trip.

We arrived at our family friends house just west of LA on Saturday afternoon. Kevin and I went to the same primary school (35 plus years ago 😱) where my Dad taught when the Lunney's were posted to the Uk.

Sophia and Jake are delighted to be in a house with 4 other children willing to share bedrooms and toys, 2 dogs and enough LEGO to keep jake busy for months. It's so lovely to be here joining in with family life!

Today we headed over the hills on highway 1 to Malibu and had an English lesson overlooking the ocean after PE which was boogie boarding. So far home schooling hasn't been at all bad!
